British Empire & Commonwealth Museum, Bristol

September 2002 – 2008

Housed in Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s Grade 1 listed Temple Meads station building, this social history museum chartered the fascinating – and often controversial – story of the British Empire and Commonwealth in an analytical, non-jingoistic way culminating in displays about the experiences of immigrants from these areas who are part of the multi-cultural society we live in today. The object-rich exhibition featured dramatic vistas and a combination of conventional, interactive, sculptural, multi-media and audio-visual displays to engage visitors throughout.
