British Commercial Vehicle Museum
The British Commercial Vehicle Museum represents a significant design challenge. The ambition is to turn a part-time museum into a fully open facility with significantly increased visitor numbers.
Based in Leyland, for many the spiritual home of British commercial vehicle manufacture, the museum’s collection is largely based on the products of the Leyland Company, and its subsequent mergers and takeovers (including Daf Trucks). The vehicles are beautifully maintained and cared-for.
Run almost entirely by volunteers, the museum presently has limited opening hours but has a loyal core audience and organises frequent special events. The challenge is to widen the appeal with engaging, educational and dramatic displays, and to provide facilities for commercial lettings.
